I am only going to refer to the LinkedIn free site so if you're paying for the upgraded program you get more features and functionality. But for most of us unless we are recruiters or product/entrepreneurial users, the free program is sufficient.
If you think you are 100% complete with your LinkedIn site, it doesn't mean that you're hitting on all cylinders to properly brand yourself. I found out how to paste my resume into LinkedIn because you don't want to copy it into your profile. The profile is more colloquial and can be in a first person tense. I might experiment with a grabbing tag line soon as if I were selling a product (me). Your linkedin profile shouldn't have your accomplishments like your resume. Make it readable: bullets are better than paragraphs.
So here is how to add.link the resume to your profile.
1. Get a free boxnet (boxnet.com) account (personal user up to 5 MB is free). To save on storage space, I save my resume to a PDF file. Once you get the resume save into a PDF file and upload into boxnet (simple instructions with the program but contact me if you need help), you need a website address (http:// ) to copy and paste into LinkedIn. Another hint is if you want to name the resume go to the LinkedIn website drop down box and select "other" This gives you both a name and an address. If you select blog or website it only gives you "blog" or "business/personal website" as the title. You may have a killer website, but don't use a personal blog if you can maximize your profile with a branded blog.
2. Since LinkedIn gives you only 3 website spaces (either website, blog or other), I use one of the 3 for my blog, one for my resume and the 3rd will be used for my bragsheet (I'll have to keep it to 4MB) to keep within the 5 MB limit in boxnet for a free subscription. Experiment with Boxnet. It is very powerful for linking data. I might need to use it in the profile I need to add other links
3. In a week I plan on showing another touchpoint for your hiring manager communication initiative - the bragsheet. In my bragsheet I'm going to include a 30/60/90 day plan, a list of 10 accomplishments, and maybe a description in the PAL format of a problem resolved (Problem, Action and Result - tied to business driver) I might try it in PowerPoint and see if I can save that to a PDF to condense the size.
