Today I received a job announcement from Indeed in the Denver area that would be a perfect fit. However, when I look at the key words I find that I shouldn't spend a lot of time on this because I've not properly networked into the organization. Plus many hospital job screeners think you have to have a hospital background to be a serious candidate and typically if it's a big organization someone might be doing this position at a lower level and will be promoted into it. I will send a resume but don't hold out hope. Note the short description. I'm underlining what seems to be key words in that announcement:
We have a coordinator position to fill that will focus on business process improvements. We are looking for candidates with experience in process improvement and an interest in performance excellence!
Summary: Provide support and consultation to Directors, staff and physicians on the identification and application of the PDCA process. Facilitate multiple interdisciplinary system PDCA teams from proposal to successful completion. Coordinate improvement initiatives with the Directors of Process Improvement and Quality Resources to avoid duplication of efforts and assure alignment with organizational strategies.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Business, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration or a clinical discipline preferred. Baldrige Performance Excellence National Board Examiner or Colorado Performance Excellence Examiner training required within one year. 1 year project management experience required. Healthcare experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong inter-personal relations, presentation and communication skills including effective meeting management, team building, group facilitation skills, dispute resolution and conflict management. Knowledge and demonstrated experience with process improvement techniques and methodology such as PDCA and Lean. Ability to work effectively within and across departments or clinical disciplines. Excellent judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously. Demonstrated experience with PC software applications, Excel spreadsheets and basic statistical process control.
What do you do when you recieve via Indeed the perfect job but maybe you feel that you don't have a chance unless you network? Do you ignore it or try to find someone in the company you're connected to? Is it too late to connect with people in the company after receiving the announcement especially if you are in another state? Do you try and find out from someone in the company via LinkedIn if this truly is an open position or a posting only because the employer feels they have to post? Only you can make this decision. If you feel you have a good shot at it, try to find a hiring manager on LinkedIn. Try to tailor your resume to hit the key points and pain points in your tagline.
I'm going to do it because it's my dream position and maybe I can use the revised job description and resume focusing on my strengths in my networking contact calls. If you're not finding your perfect job maybe you need to help the hiring manager to either create a position or hire you as a consultant in your dream job or function. By the way my new 2 sided business cards should be arriving soon. My value proposition is on the back side with my LinkedIn profile and blog site included.
